JaDine Formula: What’s on the Wings of their Love…Team?

admin

Published on November 16, 2015

From the Box Office hit “Diary ng Panget” to the high-rating kiligserye “On The Wings of Love” (OTWOL) the tandem of James Reid and Nadine Lustre has definitely flown high.

With millions of OTWOL viewers around the globe and millions of tweets daily, many have clearly caught the JaDine (as the loveteam is more popularly known) bug or what the fans sometimes refer to as OJD which stands for Obsessive JaDine Disorder. Yes, a legit term was even coined for the craze!

Yet, in a world of rising loveteam after another, what sets JaDine apart from the rest that lead to this popularity and, hopefully, will lead to their careers longevity? What do they offer differently from the solid couple of KathNeil, the refreshing team-up of LizQuen and the phenomenal pair of AlDub?

1. Remarkable Chemistry

With what else should we start but the most undeniable and most powerful attribute of the loveteam – their visible chemistry. Chemistry is the core element of any onscreen partnership. It is that factor that keeps the audience hooked with ‘kilig.’ But James and Nadine’s chemistry is so natural that they do not need grand gestures and cheesy lines just to be believable. Sure they help a lot but JaDine has this special ability to give us butterflies in our stomachs by simply looking at each other in the eye.

Their gazes bring out a sense belongingness that make us believe that they have an understanding, a secret only they know, a little world of their own. So, you just smile when they smile – perhaps with the thought that there may be something; perhaps because you just can’t help it.

Even OTWOL’s director, Antoinette Jadaone, saw that magic in the pair’s eye contact. In an interview by Star Cinema’s online site, she said: “Hindi nila kailangang magsalita para magpakilig. ‘Yung teaser na ginawa namin, ‘yung pinaka-favorite kong eksena dun hindi sila nagsasalita, nagtinginan lang sila. Sobra akong kinilig dun sa ginawa nila.”

2. Genuine Friendship

Loveteams, especially those with overflowing charm, have the tendency to be linked together even in their personal lives. Of course the fans want the same magic they see onscreen to translate to a real relationship off cam. However, both James and Nadine are firm that what they have is only friendship.

In an interview on “The Buzz” after signing their contract under ABS-CBN, James said that he considers Nadine as his “partner in crime” while in an interview with Rappler, he said that Nadine is his best female friend.

Nadine echoed the “partner in crime” relationship in her interview with Philippine Entertainment Portal (PEP ) after describing how her friendship with James deepens as he starts to open up to her: “With me kasi, kaya nafi-feel ko na nagiging close kami kasi he tells me a lot of stories, nagkwekwentuhan lang kami, pag nagpapatawa siya sa akin, that’s what I find special about him.”

This honesty is another endearing quality of JaDine. They do not give their followers false hopes. Direk Tonet testified to the authenticity of the friendship as she shared with PEP that: “good friends silang talaga. Di ko alam kung ganon kalalim [kung best friends sila], pero I see that it’s a genuine friendship. Hindi siya for show. Definitely ang gusto ko sa kanilang dalawa, nagtutulungan sila sa eksena. Nagdi-discuss sila.”

3. Evident Versatility

Currently, with OTWOL, JaDine is taking us to not just the joy and pain of youthful romance but also of the struggles with the American Dream, the plight of OFWs, the hardship of a middle class family and the love amidst them all.

Having done three movies (“Diary ng Panget,” “Talk Back and You’re Dead” and “Para sa Hopeless Romantic”), JaDine is already experienced in the rom-com genre. With OTWOL, we are seeing a wider spectrum of their acting skills with heavier drama scenes and tons of kissing scenes.

Before their Primetime debut, they have also delved in a fantaserye with ABS-CBN’s Wansapantaym Presents: “My App Boyfie.”

JaDine does not stop with acting, the pair is also a relevant mover in the music scene. From the soundtrack of their first movie to their respective solo albums, James and Nadine have already touched ballad, EDM, pop, RnB and techno.

Their duets “No Erase,” “Bahala Na” and “Hanap-Hanap” were all hits, considered as favorites among radio stations and music channels. The last two songs were even featured in AlDub’s Kalyeserye. As for their individual albums, both have earned Gold awards.

Chemistry may be an advantage in show business but, when combined with talent, it will definitely spell success and JaDine is proof to that. The pair got the coveted Guillermo Mendoza Memorial Scholarship Foundation Box-Office Entertainment Awards for the Most Popular Loveteam in Movies & TV this year.

4. Shared Beginning

James and Nadine entered the showbiz industry in very different ways. Nadine started with a singing and dancing group “Pop Girls” in 2009 while James slipped through the reality show “Pinoy Big Brother” in 2010.

Nadine released her group’s debut album and performed with them in several TV shows and mall tours. For another 5 years, she played several supporting roles including Vice Ganda’s movie “Petrang Kabayo”. James, being the 1st Big Placer of the said reality show landed several projects in the Kapamilya network. Yet, both have not received much attention.

Come 2013, James launched his debut album with the carrier single “Alam Niya Ba?” And guess who’s the leading lady in full bangs in the music video? Nadine. Yes, their chemistry was first noticed in that music video that lead them to their first solo project – a movie adaptation of the popular Wattpad novel, “Diary ng Panget.” And, as they say, the rest is history.

They may not have started together technically but they were “a pair” when they got their big break. From their first movie to OTWOL, from soundtracks to music videos, they have been together. In the same Buzz interview, James said, “The fact that we’ve gone through together this whole journey, I think it’s more that she’s my partner going through it all.”

A loveteam may rise to fame after another but as long as JaDine knows their edge and continuously bank on it, there is no doubt that this loveteam will be here for long. Perhaps the only enjoyable disease there is, let us all spread OJD.
