October 23, 2015, after three years of hiatus from the music scene, Adele returns with her newest single “Hello” echoing from the top of the charts.

In just one week from its release, the first single from Adele’s album “25” has already reached 1.1 million of digital sales as proclaimed by Billboard. This record blew off rapper Flo Rida’s 636,000 download for the first week of his song “Right Round.”

The current talk of the town, “Hello” went straight to the No. 1 spot of Billboard’s Hot 100. This is the 24th song – and Adele’s first – to debut at the top the Billboard charts. Other chart toppers from Adele were “Rolling in the Deep,” “Someone Like You,” and “Set Fire to the Rain.” All these singles also boasted massive digital sales.

Already tagged by the Official Singles Chart as the fastest-selling single of 2015 in Adele’s homeland, the UK, “Hello” greeted its first week with combined sales of 333,000 units. 165,000 of which were accumulated during the first three days of its release.

The music video of the hit song has been smashing records as well. With 27.7 million views on its first day on Vevo, it crushed the record set by Taylor Swift’s “Bad Blood.” The star-studded squad video fell short with 20.1 million views. Within 5 days, Adele’s video has earned 100 million views on YouTube and, as of press time, has already garnered 226 million views.

Streaming platform Spotify also saved a spot for Adele in its history as “Hello” was streamed all over the world for 47.5 million times on its first week. This boosted the streaming record of the song to an astounding 61.6 million, in the US alone.

In spite of Adele’s fear of this comeback, the overwhelming positive reception is not at all surprising. It was 2012 when we last heard the voice of the British power belter. Thanks to “Skyfall,” the theme song of the James Bond movie of the same title, Adele’s hibernation did not span to 4 years. Her second album “21” was released in 2011 and has sold 30 million copies around the globe. In 2012, she took a break to concentrate on being a mom to her son, Angelo.

Given this long pause, the internet went berserk when a 30-second teaser of the then mystery song was played during the commercial break of X Factor UK last October 18. Come October 21, Adele posted a long letter via her Twitter and Facebook accounts to further express her inevitable return.

The wait is not yet over, though. The award-winning songstress’ 3rd album will not be released until November 20. Adele is said to sing the trending piano ballad on 21 November, on the show Saturday Night Live.

In the meantime, let’s take this chance to answer the second stanza of the song which goes, “Hello, can you hear me?” If these were not enough proof, we don’t know what is. So yes, Adele, we can. Loud and clear. On repeat.
